Seamus qualified as an engineer from Bolton Street in 1974. With a group of friends, he built two companies: Tudor, which sold electric gates, and Environmental Engineering Ltd (EEL). Both were acquired by larger companies in 2003.
Seamus had always been interested in robotics and where the technology was heading, so he started his own robotics business. That became RobotMower.ie in 2008. In the early days he sold small domestic robot mowers and installed every one himself.
As the technology matured, robotic mowers grew big enough to handle large gardens and full-size sports pitches. Seamus saw the gap in the Irish market and moved into it. One of our first commercial customers was Naas Rugby Club. They took a machine on trial, bought it, and have added more since. Twelve years on, that original robot is still working.

What impresses me most about robotic mowers is what they save. A customer can cut their running costs to as little as a tenth of what they were spending on fuel, and the difference for the environment is enormous.
