The question every course manager asks - usually quietly - is whether this is genuinely capable machinery or an oversized domestic mower. The short answer: the navigation systems in the FJD commercial range are the same class of technology used in autonomous agricultural and construction equipment.

H4 - 3D LiDAR navigation

LiDAR - Light Detection and Ranging - fires thousands of laser pulses per second to build a real-time 3D map of the surrounding terrain. Unlike GPS, it doesn't rely on satellite signal. Under dense tree canopies, in hollows, or anywhere signal is unreliable, the RM21 navigates with the same precision as it does on an open fairway. It knows exactly where it is because it's reading the physical environment around it - not waiting for a signal from space.

H4- GPS-RTK precision positioning

In open areas the RCM01 uses GPS-RTK - Real-Time Kinematic positioning - which achieves centimetre-level accuracy rather than the metre-level accuracy of standard GPS. The machine knows its position to within a few centimetres at all times. That's what makes consistent, straight mowing lines possible across the full width of a fairway, automatically, without drift.

H4 - One-time mapping, permanent intelligence

Each machine learns its operating zones once during initial setup. You define the boundaries, the no-go areas, the transitions between zones. After that, the machine operates autonomously within those parameters — no re-programming, no manual guidance. If the course layout changes, the map is updated. The machine adapts.

H4 - Full fleet visibility from one app

The FJD Landscaping App gives your greenkeeping team live visibility of every machine on the course — position, status, mowing progress, battery level, alerts. Schedules are set and adjusted from a tablet. If a machine stops for any reason — an obstacle, a low battery, an unexpected boundary - you get an alert immediately. Nestled beneath the breathtaking MacGillycuddy's Reeks in County Kerry, Beaufort Golf Club is renowned for its stunning scenery and immaculate playing surfaces. As golf clubs continue to embrace new technologies to improve efficiency and sustainability, Beaufort has taken a significant step forward by becoming one of Ireland's latest clubs to invest in autonomous turf maintenance.

Working alongside the Beaufort Golf Club owner, Will Magill, and the club's newly appointed Head Greenkeeper, Padraig, Range King recently completed the installation and commissioning of 4 BigMow GPS-RTK robotic mowers with the help of Seamus Weldon’s Grass Machinery (Killarney).

Together, these 4 autonomous machines will maintain approximately 220,000 square metres of turf across all 18 holes, including fairways, tee boxes and semi-rough.
